Shopping Tips
Given that we spend about one third of our lives sleeping, you'd think we'd spend a little more time choosing and caring for our pillows. But too often we buy them without deliberation, care for them not at all and use them way beyond their age of retirement.
Pillows are meant to provide the correct support for your neck and spine while you are sleeping. Therefore, the position in which you sleep plays a role in deciding which pillow best meets your needs. The firmness of a pillow is determined by the materials contained in the fill, as well as the amount of filling material in the pillow. The more fill present, the firmer a pillow will feel. Different combinations of filling materials are used to create varying comfort levels and lend additional features and benefits.

Pillows containing wool provide support; their natural fill will not shift, clump or develop hollow spots. Wool is often added to pillows for its climate controlling properties.

The outer coverings of pillows also play an important role in sleep quality. One-hundred percent covers are best as they breathe, allowing you to sleep comfortably year-round. Cotton covers should have thread counts of at least 200 in order to provide the necessary durability. Pillows should be replaced as soon as their covers begin to show signs of wear.
